Intern Introduction: Asha
Hi everyone! My name is Asha (pronounced Ah-Shaw), and I am the new psychology intern at Circles of Jackson County. I am a fourth-year psychology student, and I am super passionate about improving the community around me and art. I am from Islip, New York and moved to Charlotte, North Carolina 8 years ago.
As a psychology major and Black Studies minor at Western Carolina University I have always been fascinated by the human mind and behavior, and truly believe that by understanding ourselves better, we can connect with others on a deeper level. By combining my psych major and Black Studies minor, I want to provide a holistic approach to life and art for black and brown communities. This approach takes into account the interplay of psychological factors, historical context, and artistic expression. It allows me to address the complex challenges faced by these communities, while also fostering healing and empowerment through art.
Art has always been a significant part of my life. From a young age, I have been drawn to various forms of artistic expression, such as painting, drawing, and listening to music. These activities have allowed me to explore my creativity, express my emotions, and delve deeper into myself. In the future, I hope to continue exploring different forms of art and finding new ways to express myself. By combining my love of psychology and art I want to use art as a modality in therapy and counseling. I also plan to share my artistic journey with others through workshops, exhibitions, and other forms of community engagement. Through art, individuals can express their emotions, share their stories, and create a space for healing and resilience.
While I am well on my way towards obtaining a degree in psychology, I recognize that I still have a lot to learn. My goal is to continuously expand my knowledge through education and research, so that I can provide the best possible care and support to those who need it. I will be honest in saying that while I am a psychology student, I am not a licensed therapist. If you are in need of counseling services, please do not hesitate to reach out to a professional. Your well-being is of the utmost importance, and I am happy to help you find the resources and support that best fit your individual needs.
